British business mogul and co-owner of English football club, Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has expressed his willingness to use the giant club in promoting Tanzania’s tourism globally.
The British billionaire revealed this yesterday during discussions with President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the State House in Dar es Salaam which focused on wildlife conservation and sports development.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s foundation, Six Rivers, has played a critical in role in supporting Tanzania’s conservation efforts through effective collaboration with the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) and the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) in seeking solutions to emerging human-wildlife conflicts.
“Today I held talks with Manchester United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. We had fruitful discussions on cooperation in issues of wildlife conservation and research,” President Samia said.
“I have heard Sir Ratcliffe’s intention of using Manchester United to promote our country’s tourism industry and I welcomed him to establish sports academies. I have also received goodwill messages from Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim, on behalf of the club’s players and former coach, Sir Alex Ferguson,” the President added.
President Samia has in her four-year rule given prominence to sports development as Tanzania strives to catch up with rest of the world in this key field which unities people of all races.
The Dar es Salaam high-level meeting was also attended by high-ranking officials who included Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Pindi Chana, Permanent Secretary Hassan Abbas and TANAPA Commissioner of Conservation Juma Nassoro Kuji, and other heads of departments and institutions under the ministry.
It is expected that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s visit would act as a catalyst to attract more British holidaymakers to visit Tanzania, a nation endowed with many attractions ranging from the palm-fringed ccoastal beaches of the Indian Ocean to the towering Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s rooftop.
