The General Manager lambasted illegal acts of hooliganism such as the intrusion of the mine by unscrupulous people craving for mineral wealth.
In recent years, the number of local contractors doing business with North Mara has increased sharply, thanks to the Tanzania government’s local content policy to ensure Tanzanians benefit from investment projects in their country.
According to Mr Lyambiko, the mine management has set aside 4.6 bn/- for the execution of new community projects under its CSR programme.
The projects would include the expansion of the Nyangoto water scheme to enable it supply clean and safe drinking water to many villagers.
As one of the country’s largest gold mine, North Mara is run in partnership between the giant world-famous Barrick Corporation and the Tanzania government through a subsidiary firm, Twiga Minerals.
