MUSOMA Rural Member of Parliament, Prof Sospeter Muhongo, has challenged his constituents to use the available economic opportunities in their villages to improve their own socio-economic well-being and to combat the scourge of poverty.
He has said that Musoma Rural constituency is endowed with plenty of economic opportunities waiting to be exploited now and in the future for the benefit of its people.
Prof Muhongo said this on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 during his tour of Bugoji ward to inspect, among other things, development projects, hear people’s grievances, , and to explain the available economic opportunities for people to exploit them and transform rural lives.
Some of the economic opportunities, he mentioned, include irrigation farming in Bugwema valley, cage fish farming along Lake Victoria, the availability of loans from such banks as CRDB, NMB and NBC for fishing and livestock rearing, soft loans from the Tarime District Council as set out by the government (10 percent) and the launch of small-holder farmer irrigation schemes using water from wells.
Prof Muhongo, who toured Bugoji ward, among other issues to mobilise villagers for the implementation of key development projects in their localities, used the occasion to appeal to the people to use the available resources and economic opportunities to rid themselves of poverty, which afflicts many people in the rural setting.
For quite long, the Musoma Rural legislator has been in the forefront urging villagers to take the lead in the implementation of development projects in health, education, water and infrastructure to transform living conditions in the villages.
