The Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) has spelt out its key priorities for the coming 2025/2026 financial year to stimulate its conservation and tourism activities.
The priorities hinge on improvement of protection of wildlife, infrastructure development and maintenance, use of technology and introduction of new tourism products.
The priorities were announced on Friday, Mach 4, 2025, at a TANAPA management meeting held at the Manyara National Park conference hall under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Conservation Juma Nassoro Kuji.
The management meeting was principally organised to discuss the final preparations of the government agency’s 2025/2026 budget.
Speaking to the participants, Kuji explained the TANAPA mission of preparing a budget that recognises priorities towards solving existing challenges and improving work performance in order to attain the set goals of both TANAPA and the nation at large.
“In the next financial year we shall place much emphasis on defence and security of our national parks, continued improvement of tourism infrastructure, improvement of the availability and maintenance of equipment and the availability of patrol vehicles,” he said.
Kuji also laid emphasis on a budget which will lead to the introduction of new tourism products to beef up TANAPA’s income, mobilisation of communities towards conservation, use of technology, seeking solutions to emerging human-wildlife conflicts and improving earnings for TANAPA workers.
Members of the TANAPA budget committee presented the implementation report for the 2024/2025 budget highlighting the positive response of Tanzanians to domestic tourism and visiting national parks and museum centres under TANAPA supervision.
The committee also noted that improvement should be directed to administrative and tourism infrastructure including maintenance of roads in national parks construction of tourism gates and hostels for students during their study tours of national parks, control of invasive plants, control of fierce and destructive animals, community education and implementation of development projects.
On his part, the budget committee secretary, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Sekela Mwangota, said the preparation of the TANAPA 2025/2026 budget adhered to the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi 2020 Election Manifesto and the Guidelines to the Government 2025/2026 Budget, the TANAPA Strategic Plan and various regulations, all of which aim to improve the welfare of Tanzanians.
Recommendations of the TANAPA 2025/2026 budget will be presented to various levels of decision-making for analysis and endorsement before they become effective on July 1, 2025.
TANAPA is continuing to implement its objectives of sustainable conservation in all national parks for the benefits of today’s and future generations.
